Access to outpatient services

Kessler offers a unique continuum and continuity of care from our inpatient hospitals to outpatient services. To help reinforce and build on the gains made during your inpatient stay, you may continue your rehabilitation with outpatient care. Your physician or treatment team will recommend the therapies and other treatment that you may need or benefit from.

Our four hospital campuses in New Jersey -- West Orange, Saddle Brook, Chester and Marlton -- provide state-of-the-art physical, occupational and speech therapies, cognitive rehabilitation and neuropsychology services. In addition, we offer a variety of specialized programs that – depending on location – may include driver rehabilitation, wheelchair services and vestibular (balance) rehabilitation.

Kessler physicians are also available to evaluate, diagnosis and treat physical medicine and/or rehabilitation problems or concerns, including pain management, arthritis, osteoporosis, urological issues and other conditions.

Conveniently located throughout the state, our more than 90 Kessler Rehabilitation Center locations provide physical therapy, occupational and hand therapies, sports medicine programs, work health and other important services to help restore function, promote well-being and prevent further injury.

NOTE: Kessler accepts most Medicare, Medicaid and managed care plans, as well as workers’ compensation, no-fault and other insurance plans. We will verify your insurance prior to scheduling your appointment. Speak with your insurance carrier or employer if you have coverage specific questions.

  • New patients are asked to arrive 30 minutes prior to their first appointment to fill out necessary paperwork. Our office administrator will help you complete the forms and collect any required co-payments. You may also choose to download and complete the following forms in advance to facilitate the registration process. Please bring your insurance cards to help ensure accurate claim(s) submissions.

  • Be sure to bring:

    • Insurance cards
    • Photo identification or driver's license
    • Reading glasses, if needed
    • Personal equipment – wheelchair, walker, cane, braces or other assistive devices
    • Copy of any home exercise program you may have
    • List of your current medications

Please notify your therapist(s) of any prescription or non-prescription medications you take regularly, including dosage, frequency and the condition for which it is prescribed. We will review your drug regimen so everyone involved in your care understands your needs.

  • New patients will meet with a member of Kessler's clinical team who will conduct a comprehensive evaluation, discuss specific needs and rehabilitation goals and develop an individualized treatment plan. The length of treatment and frequency of visits are based on several factors including:

    • Specific injury/condition
    • Physician recommendations
    • Surgeon or case manager's prescription
    • Therapist's evaluation and recommended treatment plan
  • To achieve your rehabilitation goals and optimize recovery, you will be given a schedule of your therapy appointments. It is important that you attend all scheduled sessions. We ask that you arrive on time for your sessions. If you are running late, please call and we’ll adjust your schedule accordingly. Every effort will be made to accommodate you at a later time.

If you need to cancel an appointment, please notify us at least 24 hours in advance. If we are unable to take your call personally, leave a message with your name, phone number and reason for cancellation. A member of our staff will contact you to reschedule.
  • In the event of any change in your medical or physical status, such as a fall at home or in the community, an emergency room visit or hospitalization, you must report this to both your referring physician and Kessler therapist. You will need to obtain written medical clearance from your physician to resume or continue your therapy.

With your safety and comfort in mind, we recommend you wear loose- fitting, comfortable exercise clothes and rubber-soled shoes, preferably sneakers, to help you maintain your footing during therapy sessions.
  • Kessler accepts most Medicare, Medicaid and managed care plans, as well as workers’ compensation, no-fault and other insurance providers. We will verify your insurance prior to scheduling an appointment. Speak with your insurance carrier or employer for coverage specific questions.
